Language

How can we break the code of language? When someone speaks a language that we don't understand, could we still understand? I say yes, how about you? As a criminal justice major, we look into the world of victimization and when you see a victim crying you know they are in pain, sorrow, or hurt (as well crying can represent enjoy but we will leave this one out). This is a language that law enforcement must recognize, but everyone can understand this language. So could this be considered a language?

Food for thought, I wanted to know other peoples thoughts.

  1. Great post! Great image.
We might understand that they are upset if they are crying--but without language, it's hard to know why or what we could do. I absolutely agree that we can empathize without words. But there's something special that happens when you have the opportunity to articulate what you think or mean or feel into words and someone "hears" (as in understands). It's not always that easy to get to the place where we feel understood by others and they by us. (Does that make sense?)

  2. That makes perfect sense and I like the part when there is something special that happens when we articulate our words and someone understand them. It like a mothers love, it could never be measured, or put exactly in terms that truly mean how much she love her child. I am really enjoying this class thank you.
